Family hails life-changing Wondrwall technology

At Wondrwall, we’re proud to create intelligent technology that transforms people’s homes and lives. That impact is clear in the experience of the How family, who moved into a Stonewater home in Mendip View, Axbridge, fitted with Wondrwall’s Home Energy Management System.
Laura How moved into her home at Mendip View in August 2022 following a ‘traumatic’ housing journey. The family described their previous home as ‘very cold and horrendously expensive to heat’.
But thanks to the Wondrwall’s Home Energy Management System (HEMS) at her Stonewater property, the family have been able to track their daily energy usage and cut down on their energy bills. It has even inspired her son, who has grown up with the technology.
Wondrwall doesn’t just give homeowners control – it gives the home a ‘brain’ and the ability to control itself. Sensors throughout each home (via Wondrwall light switches) monitor motion, temperature, humidity, light, and sound. The system uses this insight, along with time-of-use tariff data, weather forecasts and geo-location, to automatically manage heating, lighting, security, energy consumption and exports based on occupancy – ensuring optimal energy efficiency and comfort.
Wondrwall is an amazing system. I’m not that into tech, but it’s simple to use and I can see so many benefits
Laura How, Wondrwall Homeowner

Laura, who lives with her husband and 12-year-old son, said: “We’re in an incredibly good position now and we can see exactly how much we are spending day by day, and over the year we’re definitely not spending as much.”
Laura’s home is part of a wider low-carbon initiative by Stonewater, combining Wondrwall’s intelligent technology with ceiling-mounted infrared heating panels, rooftop solar PV and a smart hot water tank. The result is a modern, efficient, gas-free property, designed with both sustainability and homeowner’s in mind.
“Wondrwall is an amazing system,” says Laura. “I’m not that into tech, but it’s so easy to use. I love the heating panels, there are no radiators taking up wall space, and in the winter, it felt like I was sunbathing. It’s even inspired my son, who’s become really engaged with the system.”
From setting heating schedules for specific rooms to controlling lights remotely or tracking daily usage, the technology offers both convenience and peace of mind. Laura adds, “The app puts our energy use front and centre, it makes us more conscious, and the savings are really noticeable, especially with everything costing more these days.”
Since moving into their new home, Laura and her family have made the most of the Wondrwall technology, which allows them to control the home’s features via the Wondrwall app.
“The Wondrwall system works best as part of a well-thought-out, integrated approach. When combined with solar, smart hot water and efficient heating, the carbon savings and customer benefits are huge. It supports our vision for net zero developments and helps us stay ahead of the curve with sustainable innovation.”
